Section 5: Tips

Cleaning your tatami is essential, not least to ensure good hygiene. For effective maintenance, we recommend using clear water and a damp cloth. If you wish to use a cleaning product, be sure to choose one with a neutral pH. The use of a robot vacuum cleaner can also be a good solution for regular maintenance of your tatami mats. On the other hand, we strongly advise against the use of products such as Dettol or bleach, as well as “high-pressure” cleaning, which can damage tatami mats. Click here for an explanatory video: https: //youtu.be/O5ublBc-tcc

Installing tatamis is a technical stage that requires rigor and precision. To help you install them correctly, we’ve put together an explanatory video: https: //youtu.be/ZqgQTD1FaaQ

Kumite karategi is lighter and more flexible. It generally features several ventilation zones to facilitate breathability, and is most often made from polyester.

Kata karategi, on the other hand, is stiffer and heavier. It’s made mainly of cotton, which gives it better hold and a sharper rendering of techniques.

You can find all our karategis by clicking on this link: https: //www.daisho.be/?s=karategi&post_type=product

To take part in a competition, you must have all the protective equipment required by your federation. In karate, WKF-approved equipment is essential to guarantee safety and compliance in competition. It includes a kumite karategi and a kata karategi, red or blue protectors, a mouth guard, a red and a blue belt, an approved body protector (with chest protector for women), as well as approved hip protectors for male competitors. All this equipment must be of the type approved by the WKF to be accepted in competition.

For competitors under the age of 14, the WKF also imposes a specific “Youth League” kit: the use of a helmet with visor (face shield) and an approved external chest protector is mandatory to reinforce protection during bouts.

Last but not least, it’s important to respect the rules of dress: the white karategi must conform to standards (with no unauthorized embroidery or ornamentation), and the colors of the karategi or bands must comply with current guidelines.

For competitions organized by other federations, such as the Japan Karate Association (JKA), requirements may differ from those of the WKF. JKA regulations are generally more traditional, with the emphasis on sober, uniform dress.

It is compulsory to wear white gloves, a red belt (AKA) and a white belt (SHIRO) to distinguish competitors, a mouth guard and a protective shell for men. Karategi must be white, without excessive markings, and conform to the standards defined by the federation.

As each organization has its own regulations, it is always advisable to check specific requirements with the federation or competition organizer.

Yes, you can find WKF-certified equipment at Daisho.
We offer a wide range of WKF-approved products, guaranteeing their conformity for official national and international competitions.

You’ll find equipment from leading brands such as Adidas and Tokaido: approved karategi, red and blue gloves, shin-foot protectors, chest protectors, mouth guards, ear muffs, as well as specific equipment for youth categories.

All products bearing the WKF Approved mark comply with the technical and safety standards imposed by the federation. We select these products to guarantee our customers reliable, compliant and competition-ready equipment.

You can purchase IJF-approved equipment directly from Daisho.
To take part in official competitions, clothing must meet the requirements laid down by the International Judo Federation.

We offer IJF-certified judogi in white and blue, complying with regulatory criteria (cut, dimensions, weight and official label). These models are suitable for pre-fight checks at national and international competitions.

You’ll also find IJF-approved belts that meet the standards required for competition.

By choosing IJF Approved products, you can be sure that your equipment has been validated and is ready for the demands of the highest level.
