The Bokken or wooden sword
Are you a beginner? The Bokken is used in many training exercises, warm-ups, Kata and Kihon. It’s usually made of white oak, and consists of a guard and a scabbard (saya). You can choose between a light wooden saber for finesse or a heavier weapon to accentuate your precision.
The Iaito or study sword
The Iaito is an Iaido practitioner’s main weapon. It’s a replica of a real katana, but the blade is not sharpened. It is the result of experience and must be well maintained. Choosing an Iaito blade and tsuka is a very important step.
Shinai for armored combat
Shinai is the essential element of Kendo practice. This weapon consists of 4 blades cut from bamboo. It poses no danger to combatants: when struck, the Shinai bends and absorbs the impact by absorbing part of the energy caused by friction.
