The Jo is a short stick used in Jodo, Aikido and various styles of Koryu bujutsu. It’s a simple stick that can be of different lengths. The most common length is around 127.6 cm, corresponding to 4.21 Shaku. Shaku is a traditional Japanese unit of measurement.
Our Jo’s are made by the Aramaki workshop in Kyushu from local materials. You can choose between Japanese red oak and white oak. Red oak is light and easy to handle, while white oak is denser and heavier – better suited to vigorous contact training.
